Introduction – How this site came to be

Rug Hooking Road Trip

I am a hooker.

I travel.   You?

When I’m traveling, I look for thrift stores, trying to score the last Pendleton Skirt. I also look for fellow hookers, dyers, fabric artists, rug hooking supplies, groups, galleries, etc.

I am frustrated by magazine ads that don’t include locations,  and directories that offer only an alphabetical index by company or artist names.

I am a former librarian. I believe in multiple ways to look stuff up.

I am also a web-developer.

I hope you’ll join me in building this directory!

I’m sure that once Covid allows, there will be many hookers on the road — and I know that people want to see other people, in person, and not just order more stuff on the internet.

For Now...

About 60% of the PLACES and EVENTS you see here, were entered by me, as I found them in ATHA, RHM, and online.  This was so I could test how things would work, and so that you would have something to explore as we get started.

If I added your business or event, please use the CLAIM button and take over!

If you’re not yet “on the map” I invite business owners, group leaders,  and event organizers to add to these directories  FOR FREE FOREVER*

but there are now options I hope will be worth some advertising dollars  — and the contributions  will help me pay for keeping this up and running and making improvements. (See Membership Options).  Long term sustainability will require some financial support from somewhere!

Download a one-page guide to Categories, Tags and what you can add For Free Forever.

See suggested Tags for Groups.

Don’t forget the How To button in the top menu!

Event listings last 12 months or until event has happened, whichever is shorter.  FREE events are always free.

“Early Adopter Free Event Listings”  have been extended:  ALL events are free until 100 events have been added.  After that, there will be  a small fee for events that charge admission.  I figure if you sell ONE ticket due to this listing it was worth the $5 or $20 to list the event here.

What You Can Do Here:

Explore using the buttons above or these links:

Places     Add a Place

Events     Add an Event

Groups     Add a Group

Places include individual artist studios, galleries, stores that sell wool and other fibers,  tools, etc.

Events include major Hook-Ins, Festivals, Workshops, Rug Shows, Rug Schools.

Groups include Guilds, ATHA Chapters and Unaffiliated Rug and Fiber Arts Groups.  Let people know you exist and how to be in touch.

At this point I’m looking for PLACES and EVENTS that you would go to — not web-only stores or virtual events*.

It’s about planning the Road Trip, after all.

*Send me an email if you think Events should include virtual events as well.

Speaking of planning:  List your events as soon as you have the date:  “Save the Date” listings are OK and you can edit and add details as they are finalized.   Travelers interested in your event need time to plan their road trips!

And list events by May 31 List your events soon they’ll be free for 12 months, even if the event itself isn’t free.   This is extended until we have 100 upcoming events on the map.
